Getting a picture of a smiling Lola is like finding Bigfoot. And, since someone supposedly found the furry creature, I figured I should try to capture one of my daughter's smiles. She is happiest in the morning, so this was taken Friday morning, while she was playing in her bouncy seat.
The smile was especially rewarding since Lola has been fairly crabby lately. We're pretty sure it's a humidity. When the air conditioning is on, she is much happier. So now we are looking forward to winter! Well, not really.
Anyhow, she is five weeks old today and just gets cuter by the day. She is funny and already is fairly spoiled -- she absolutely refuses to poop in a wet diaper. So, if you change her and she is really wet, you kind of just wait around by the changing table for a few minutes until she soils the new one. It's pretty funny.

Happy one month birthday, Lola! It is so hard for us to believe that she is already a month old. It is amazing to watch her grow and become more and more alert with each passing day. She smiles more and more - and, of course, cries just as often - and we find her enjoying new activities almost daily.
I really just wanted to share a quick funny:
All three of us were at home one night this week and I was preparing to feed Lola, who was wearing a purple onesie and matching sweats. While I was mixing her bottle, she began to get a bit fussyn and impatient (she gets that from Ray, I think). While trying to come up with something new to talk to her, I realized that she was sucking on her purple Nuk and I also had her purple bottle in hand.
"Oh, you're already color coordinating your accessories!" I told her.
And Lola grinned from ear to ear. It was the cutest darned thing ever.

Whew, it has been a busy -- and fast -- two weeks. I can't believe that Lola is four weeks old today! That's amazing. She's growing up so quickly. Too quickly in fact, if you ask you me. She has already outgrown her first batch of "newborn" clothes and we had to move her up one size in diapers this past week.
But, there has been several successes lately that come along with her getting a little older. She is now a LOT more alert and plays for longer periods of time. She especially likes to stare at people's faces and mimic their expressions. She is particularly good at making a surprised face and smiling. She is a very smiley baby; we love it.
Last night, Ray and I celebrated another nice milestone: For the first time in four weeks, we slept side-by-side! After four weeks of having to try to sleep in the recliner with little Lola on our chests, she has finally transitioned to the bassinet. Yeah, we probably should have stressed this earlier, but better late than never, right?
Lola made her first trip to the Twin Cities last week, and made her first appearances at the mall and the Minnesota Zoo, which is where the above picture was taken. She slept through both trips.
So, we're now back home enjoying the scenery and our home. She is currently unwinding in her swing -- I am catching up on email. And, yes, one of these days I will catch up on belated phone calls.
