what a FUN weekend!

Wow! We all had such a great time this past weekend. Time always go by way too fast, but we all made the best of the time we had. Ray's parents came to Bemidji for the weekend - and Lola (and her parents) had a blast hanging at home and playing with her toys.

It usually takes Lola a while to warm up to people, but she must've remembered her grandparents, because she was comfortable with them nearly immediately. We all had so much fun.

Now we are relaxing at home, happy to have no housework to do and no cooking - we have enough meals already made for the whole week!

Lola seems to be a bit stuffy, so we are hoping that doesn't turn into a full-blown cold. We'll see.

Hope everyone else had a nice weekend!

(And if anyone gets ESPNU - email us with the scores of the Beaver hockey game tonight!)

lovin' her sweet potatoes

Just because I wanted a different post atop the page, I share with you this photo of Lola enjoying her sweet potatoes.

I let her play with her own spoon - but, no, she was not feeding herself. I was trying to feed her (unsuccessfully, for the most part) myself, but she wanted to "fence" with me instead.

Any surprise that bath time immediately followed this?!

Have a great weekend!

sad news...

Only because I posted on this once before, I thought I would share.

The pregnant dolphin at the Minnesota Zoo went into labor, but the baby didn't survive.

Tha should be the link. If not, you can copy and paste: http://www.mnzoo.org/animals/discovery_bay/dolphin_blog.asp

Just thought I'd share.

Lola is crawling! And playing ball!

Lola started crawling Sunday morning!

She has been so close these past few weeks, but just could not get the hang of it. Sunday, she and I were sitting on the floor and she was just out of arm's reach of my lap and she just went for it. It was so cute. And then I must have gotten so excited because I scared her.

She hasn't really quite taken off yet. She'll take about 2-3 "steps" (don't know what you would call it) and then belly flop forward. But she has learned that she can get to what she wants, if it is somewhat close. And, she does seem to need to re-learn how to crawl each day, but I'm sure once she really gets it down, she'll be off...

Such an exciting time.

In other, news, she has found a new favorite toy -- one that I particularly love! Yep, she loves her tennis ball!

She, of course, tries to eat it and can't, but we played a game of "catch" this morning rolling it back and forth between us. She was amazed when I bounced it a little bit toward her.

She is such a cutie. Just a fun, happy baby. She is really starting to babble a lot (and, yes, her father thinks she is saying "dada" all of the time -- I've yet to agree). She is standing while hanging on to things, but hasn't really been much interested in trying to pull herself up, other than those few times a couple of weeks ago. She is still eating like a champ and sleeping through the night (usually about 11 hours, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. or so).

(Quick thanks to Karen, who was so kind fo make her some bows that she can wear! (The ones pictures above.) Lola has been getting lots more hair, but it still hasn't gotten long enough for rubber bands or bows. So these were very welcome! She didn't even try to pull them out! Which is so un-Lola!)

Thanks for checking on us, as always!

mommy's new look...

Well, I finally did it. After thinking about it for some time now, I decided to say bye-bye to the blond.

I really do love it -- but it is going to take some getting used to, that's for sure. Ray loves it -- and the best part is that Lola still recognized me (yeah, I was a little worried about that). She kind of gave me a funny look at first, but after hearing my voice, she was fine.

That's about all for now - just thought I would share.

missing you already...

Time just goes too fast! We had a fabulous time this past weekend as my parents came and visited for three days. Lola had great fun and was in a super mood all weekend (which is always helpful).

She played lots with Grandpa and Grandma and showed them how she loves to crawl backwards and play with all of her toys, especially her favorite blocks.

She also go to the meet the newest member of the family, Roma. Lola didn't always know quite what to make of her, but we all fell in love with the little puppy dog. Isn't she cute?! (Roma particularly loved Lola's bouncy seat and the mat under her play gym. it was pretty cute.)

It's visits like this that make us wish that we lived just a little closer to "home" - it's hard not seeing everyone on a more regular basis.

The weather was perfect this weekend and were able to walk downtown and completely take in the sun and much-needed warmth! Lola also had her second-ever visit to a sit-down restaurant. She did MUCH better than the first time (when she screamed the whole time at Applebee's right before Christmas). This time, she played (mostly) quietly in her high chair and invited some guests to come stop by our table and comment on her so very blue eyes.

We have since gotten back into our schedules here in Bemidji and are still enjoying the nice weather.

This weekend we don't have any scheduled, just some Saturday work for me and, hopefully, church on Sunday. )We haven't been so great about regular appearances at church since Lola arrived, so we are trying to change that a little bit.)

Then, we have some more visitors next weekend when Grandma and Grandpa Wesley come into town. We are so excited to see everyone again - it feels like it has been so long! (OK, just the end of January, but this whole every-other month thing is just not what I am used to.)

Thanks for checking on us, as always!

Look what Lola learned!

(Don't you just LOVE her little curls?!)

After a few hours of trying to put Lola to sleep, we gave up and had some play time tonight.

And, we saw that Lola has now learned to stand all by herself while holding onto her bouncy chair (who knew?):

We knew that she was getting close, and has been trying as of late to hold herself up while hanging onto the arm rest of the couch, but we were still pretty surprised at how long she stayed standing. I know that it's hard to tell from still shots, but she stayed upright like this for a few minutes.

And then she got to be a bit of a show-off (caption: "Look, Mom, no hands!"):

Lola seems to have recovered from her first real cold. (Yes, we've been pretty spoiled parents to date.) She had an OK morning Saturday while she and I bummed at the mall all afternoon. But by 2 p.m. she was cranky and by 4 p.m. she was all plugged up. And mad. Ray had a rough night since he had "baby duty" and daylight savings or whatever. But I got some sleep! :)

She was better by Sunday morning and back to herself by Sunday night.

She continues to work on moving around. She still isn't crawling forward, but she's learning new tricks. She gets up on all fours and then leaps forward, landing on her tummy. Basically it's a belly flop. She doesn't actually move anywhere. But she is trying.

Just for fun, here are some pictures of Lola with her new friend Rugby. We had such a good visit with Kelly and Jason when they visited a few weeks ago. (Hard to believe that was like 15 inches of snow ago...) But you can see how unafraid Lola was of the "puppy" dog!

We have a set of grandparents coming this weekend, along with a new itty bitty puppy, so that should be fun! Hopefully, the blizzard here will subside by then.

More to come, I'm sure!

Pics, as promised

I took some pictures this morning - Lola was not in a photoshoot kind of mood, but she stuck with it for my sake.

Here are the many faces of Lola:

She also seems to be teething again a bit. Still no teeth yet that we've noticed or felt, but Lola is obviously feeling something!

This pic is one of my favorites:

And, finally, I leave you with this picture, which should have a caption that reads: "Is spring coming anytime soon, Mommy?" (My sentiments exactly.)

That's all for now!
