weekend visit

We all made a long-overdue trip "home" to the Cities this past weekend. It was so nice to see everyone again!

We first went to Maple Grove and Lola had a blast playing with her grandma and grandpa. She also was quite taken with Ori, the kitty-cat. Ori, on the other hand, was less than thrilled with her presence, but he did pretty darn well.

We brought her toys along, but Lola was much more interested in Grandpa's pile of magazines:

Saturday afternoon, Lola made her first appearance at Totino's, a Wesley Family tradition. She was quite impressed with the menu:

Saturday evening, we gathered with my family to catch up and celebrate as the family is expecting another wee one in several weeks. Lola played with her cousins, but it was pretty obvious that she isn't used to having to share or get whatever she wants (yeah, she's spoiled like her mother). It was great fun!

Today, we are both home relaxing. Lola has a touch of a fever so I stayed home from work. Plus, it's snowy and raining...

Have a good week everyone!

waiting for daddy...

Ray comes home tomorrow! Lola and I are sooo excited! Not that she understands that Ray is coming home, but I know she is looking for him. Yesterday, I put Ray on speaker and she smiled so big! And today, we were looking at her picture book and I pointed to a picture of Ray, saying, "Daddy." And she spun her head around and looked at the door. So sad.

This was a long, but very productive week for us girls. My goal, sans Ray, was to get Lola to actually fall asleep in her crib. Yes, I know, she is nine months old. But, it's just been easier to let her fall asleep in her bouncy chair. And then move her. Really, in the past month or two, we've been rocking her in her chair for maybe 15 minutes and then putting her down. But this week I decided to just put her down right away. (The fact that she is large enough now that her bottom actually touches the ground when she is her bouncy chair probably helped prompt my decision, by the way.)

I should say that I don't really let her cry herself to sleep. That's just not me. I know there are tons and tons of opinions on this and such, but I didn't do that. I let her play, sing, fuss and whine. But, as soon as she started really crying (i.e. screaming), I went in and calmed her down.

So this is how it went:

Monday - doesn't count. I had a city council meeting and Lola's grandpa babysat. I did end up just putting her in her crib and letting herself put herself to sleep, but it was 9 p.m. and WAY past her bedtime (Lola usually sleeps 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Never much later than 7:30 p.m.)

Tuesday - 70 minutes

Wednesday - 75 minutes (at this point I was kind of thinking I was doing something wrong. Isn't supposed to get easier? Like shorter?)

tonight - 11 minutes (yay!)

I already gave Ray fair warning that if I saw that darned bouncy chair next week once he's back I'm retiring from all-night duty. Permanently.

In other news, Lola has learned new skills this week. She can now go from crawling to sitting to crawling again. At will. She is moving around so much, it's exhausting - but so fun! She also has somehow picked up this odd habit of crawling over to a stuffed animal (such as the large Easter bunny pictured below) and rubbing her head all over it. She does this on the bed, also, with pillows. I think she is just learning different textures and stuff, but it's a little odd. She'll be crawling and laughing and then just throw her head on the bunny and rub her face all over it. It makes me laugh.

Her new favorite game is Catch Me If You Can! She crawls away from me, eventually getting here:

Once under the Jumperoo she knows it is harder for me to get to her. She thinks it's fun to see Mommy get down on her knees just like her. I think it's irritating, personally. But it is cute. Can't be mad when she's grinning at you!

Anyhow, that's about it here.

Happy spring! Finally!

um, testing...

OK, apparently I somehow disabled the commenting option on this thing several months ago. I'm trying to fix it.

Sorry,
Bethany :)

UPDATE: Ha! I think I fixed it. But, it doesn't look like I can make it so you can comment on older blogs.

9 month checkup

Hi everyone!

Just a very quick update. Lola had her nine-month checkup today.

weight: 20 pounds, 9 ounces (78th percentile)
hieght: 28 inches (75th percantile)
head: 17 3/4 inches (78th percentile)

She dropped in percantiles for all categories as she had been in the 96th for most. But that's crawling for you! She's geting quite the workout!

Have to run,

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter! Hope everyone had a great day!

Lola didn't quite know what to take of everything going on today, but she seemed to really enjoy the eggs. Never mind the chocolate or candy inside, she was much more interested in the plastic!

We had a great time today, spending time with my family. We went to church and spent time catching up with some family members. Lola got to see her Grandpa Al and she always likes seeing her cousin, Amber! Lola liked being outside for the egg hunt, too, especially since it was cloudy (she hates the sun).

In other news, we are preparing here for a week without Ray as he is leaving us for five days for work training (insert tears here). Seriously, though, I am not looking forward to it. At all. Ray and I are sort of connected at the hip. And, we have a pretty good system worked out at home for Lola. But, he will be back on Friday, so it's not too long, I suppose. Ray is , unreasonably, worried that Lola is going to forget him. (More reasonably, he's afraid that I'm going to go on a springtime spending spree. That would, at least, be more likely.)

On the baby front, Lola is getting into everything. She is crawling everywhere and her knees are certainly evidence of her newfound skill. She is getting frustrated in that she hasn't learned how to go from sitting to crawling to sitting. She sometimes will surprise herself - and us - by going from sitting to crawling, accidentally, but can't seem to figure out how to get to a toy and sit down to play with it. She's getting close, though - I went in this evening after she went to bed because she was fussing a bit. I found her sitting cross-legged in the middle of the crib looking very confused.

She has yet to show any teeth yet, but I know she can feel them moving around in there somewhere.

And, she is still loving bathtime.

That's about it for now. We sincerely hope you all had a great Easter!

crawling ... and falling

Well, the good news is that Lola is crawling all over the place. She really got going a few days ago and is now into everything. (I need to vacuum more often or better, I'm learning.)

The problem is now she thinks she's all smart and is trying, unsuccessfully, to stand from crawling or go faster than her arms are capable. We've had a lot of face-plants.

She is so cute, though, and so proud of herself. Ray and I are proud, too, of course, but we're also a little tired from chasing after her!

Have a good weekend!
