sisters forever

Millie this week has decided that sleep is optional during the day. She is not necessarily crying - she just will not sleep.

Usually, I battle against her as I try, over and over and over and over again, to get her to fall asleep. Today, though, I was tired of fighting her. So I decided to wear her out to the point of completely exhaustion while taking some pictures of the girls together.

Lola loves her baby sister. Her whole face lit up when I said she could hold Amelia so Mommy could take some pictures. She even let me brush her hair without complaining as we got ready.

The other night Lola started crying at bedtime. She was incomprehensible through her wails. Just as we were about to just put her in bed and let her be, she managed to put a few words together, "I did not kiss Millie g'night!" We, then, of course, let her do so. And she went to bed happily.

On another topic, I continue to compare their baby pictures...

Just a fun game I guess. Hard to take it very seriously, though, since my current camera is, well, crappy. It screws up the color all of the time when we are indoors.

Have a great weekend. We, again, are headed south to see family. This time, though, Ray is going to be in the car, too, so I am less stressed about it.

It should be a fun time.

two months old

Sweet Amelia turned two months old yesterday. She continues to be a very happy, easygoing baby.

Today, she and I went to for her two-month checkup. She loved it. How different two kids can be. Whereas Lola, at her two-month appointment, screamed from the moment they began trying to weigh her until she got home and slept, Millie thought it was playtime. She cooed and grinned at the nurses and played with me happily while the pediatrician checked her over.

Of course, she did scream during and after the shots, but she was quickly comforted and fell asleep before I even got her in her carseat.

Stats:
Weight -- 12 pounds, 0 ounces. 78th percentile.
Height -- 24 inches. 96th percentile.
Head circumference -- 16 inches. 89th percentile.

She has grown incredibly. I mean, she was nearly two whole pounds lighter than her sister at birth but is catching up.

Lola's two-month stats (just for comparison fun):
Weight -- 12 pounds, 12.8 ounces.
Height -- 23 inches.
Head circumference -- 16 inches.
All of which was said to put her in the 95th percentile.

I have less than three weeks left until I return to work. I am getting more and more ready every day, but it is going to be hard to leave the girls.

More to come.

sisters

Now that Amelia is getting older, she is staying awake for about an hour after each feed, or for about 75 minutes every three hours (during the day). Which means we are having more "real" playtime.

And Lola is loving it as much fun, if not more than, Millie herself.

She loves being around her baby sister. And Millie, too, seems to be excited and very interested when Lola is around.

Watching the sisters relationship develop is amazing. Parenthood the second time around has been wonderful, due in large part to Millie's easygoing and happy disposition of course, but also because I get to see and experience it through a three-year-old's eyes.

Every bottle feed is interesting. When I successfully burp the baby, Lola is mesmerized. Changing her diaper is a family event. And picking out Amelia's clothes for the day becomes a fifteen-minute debate.

"How about this one?" I suggest, holding out a simple yellow onesie.

Lola wrinkles her nose, "How 'bout a princess dress?" she asks, pointing at the frilly, ruffled dresses.

"How 'bout this one?" I indicate a pink onesie. "It is pink..."

"How 'bout a princess dress," Lola counters, getting more and more insistent about the fancy infant dresses.

Somehow, I always seem to lose these debates.

Meanwhile, Amelia waiting patiently, staring from her crib at the whales on her wall. Her favorite part of the house.

So, in short, we're not up to much this week. Relaxing at home.

(Yeah, we have cute kids.)

What a week!

I am not even going to try to detail our trip the Cities. It was an amazingly fun-filled and busy time. We went to two birthday parties, the Mall of America, the Minnesota Zoo and the Children's Museum. Not to mention two malls and countless little side trips (such as Lola's first "real" haircut!). We had tons of time with family, and it was especially fun to see Lola play with her cousins.

The time flew by. We all had a blast. But we also missed Ray a lot.

Of course, the trip was made easier on me as my two girls were absolute angels in the car. I mean, really. It was more than I could have hoped for, since I was driving alone. Amelia fussed a few times - she never cried - and they both more or less slept the whole way there and back.

Here is a hodgepodge of pictures from our trip in no particular order:

To say the least, it was a very memorable trip.
